The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office wants to use home and business surveillance cameras to assist them in solving crimes. It’s called “Security Camera Registry and Mapping”, or “SCRAM”. The program is completely voluntary and the information gathered will be restricted to official investigative purposes. When a crime occurs, investigators often canvass the area for possible surveillance, but pre-registration can save a lot of time and energy. Participation in the program does not mean private cameras would be accessible at any time, but only when requested for a specific reason. Registration can be done through a link at shastasheriff.org.
