Van Strikes Wheelchair Sending Man To Hospital With Critical Injuries

A wheelchair-bound man was struck by a van in Red Bluff Wednesday afternoon, leaving him in critical condition. At 12:43PM, the 59-year-old Red Bluff man was crossing Main Street at Sycamore Street in an electric wheelchair when a Chrysler minivan driven by 19-year-old Brenden Medellin approached from the north and struck the man. He was taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital with critical injuries, and later transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Redding. The victim was within a marked crosswalk when he was hit. Red Bluff Police say Medellin did not appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol.
