Update: North Redding Home Sustains Major Damage

A house in north Redding sustained major damage from a fire Friday afternoon. The house is on Ridge Road, in a neighborhood off of Twin View Boulevard. It was about 50% involved when firefighters got there, according to Redding Fire Battalion Chief Eric McMurtry. The residents were not home at the time of the fire. A half dozen game hens in cages to the rear of the house perished, likely from smoke inhalation. There were also 4 or 5 large rabbits in cages. The rabbits survived and were taken to be cared for by Haven Humane Society until the homeowner returns. The cause of the fire is under investigation. As with several recent fires in the Redding area, a large number of spectators caused delays for fire engines trying to get to the scene.
