There’s a search underway in Trinity County for a missing backpacker. On Wednesday evening, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office was notified that 34-year-old Daniel Komins, had failed to return from a five day solo trip in the Trinity Alps. Komins had started hiking near the Canyon Creek Trail System last Saturday. Komins called his girlfriend Sunday, and said the trip was going as planned. Komins’ vehicle was located near a Trinity County trailhead. a search and rescue effort began at daylight Thursday, including ground teams, all-terrain vehicle teams and helicopter teams. Komins is an experienced hiker and an emergency medical technician. He has a GPS tracker, which isn’t working properly. His cell phone has seen no activity since last Sunday.
