RPD: Man Leads Police On 35 Mile Chase

A suspected drunk driver led Redding Police on a lengthy chase into the mountains early Monday morning. A little before 2AM an officer tried to stop a car near Hartnell and Shasta View reportedly driven by 49-year-old Paul Cruz of Redding, but he fled eastbound on Hartnell and made his way to Highway 299. RPD Officers and Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies pursued the car for 26 minutes on a 35 mile drive at up to 100 miles an hour to Montgomery Creek. That’s where Burney-area deputies placed spike strips on the road, causing the tires to go flat. Cruz and his passenger, 32-year-old Felicia Gensaw were taken into custody without incident. The car had been reported stolen on July 25th from Hilltop Drive and the license plates had been stolen from a different car of the same make, model and year.
