Dive Team Continuing Search For Drowning Victim

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Dive Team will be out for a third day Tuesday morning looking for the body of a man believed to have drowned on Sunday in Lake Shasta. Sunday afternoon, four men were fishing from a boat when they ran out of gas at the mouth of Packers Bay. After floating for a while they were getting hot, so three of them jumped in for a swim. One of the men was clearly struggling to stay afloat and the others tried to help him but he fought them off in his panic before eventually slipping under the surface. The dive team tried to locate the man Sunday, and again Monday when they also used an underwater robot in the effort. During Monday’s operation a member of the sheriff’s dive team had to be transported to a hospital due to a dive-related injury. The search resumed Tuesday morning. The victim is identified as a Vietnamese-American male. His name will be released after his family is notified.
