Council Votes To Draft Letter Opposing New Casino

At Tuesday night’s meeting the Redding City Council voted to send a letter opposing the new Win River Casino project to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which will ultimately make the final decision. An emotional Tribal Chairman Jack Potter said that the Redding Rancheria and Win-River Casino have always been good neighbors to the City of Redding.

More environmental concerns have arisen on the new Costco project, delaying what would have been the final Redding City Council vote on the project until sometime early next year. Costco says it needs the time to address the EIR which now must go back to the planning commission, and then the full council again.

The council also accepted City Manager Barry Tippin’s recommendation of Captain Bill Schueller as the new police chief, replacing Roger Moore, who will retire in October.
