Searchers Find Human Remains Where Missing Man’s Truck Was Located

A man who was missing from Lewiston has likely been found, but it wasn’t the way the family had hoped. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office had been looking for 73-year-old William Elliott. On August 11th, family members reported that he had not been seen or heard from for almost week. Elliott had moved to the Lewiston area several months ago, although he no longer had a permanent residence in the area. His vehicle was located, parked on the shoulder of Trinity Dam Boulevard near Highway 299. Several ground searches of the surrounding area were conducted, but no signs of Elliot were found. On Saturday Trinity County Search and Rescue did a grid search near the intersection and several small items belonging to Elliot were found before the discovery of partial unidentifiable human remains. They’re assumed to be those of Elliot, but DNA testing will be done to be sure. The sheriff’s office does not believe Elliot met with foul play.
