Trinity River Flows Will Increase Substantially Over Labor Day Weekend

Anyone who will spend time beside the Trinity River for Labor Day weekend needs to know that the size of the river will increase six-fold in one day. Occasionally the river is allowed to swell to imitate the natural ebb and flow prior to the dams being built to regulate the level, but that’s not what’s happening this weekend. The reason for the dramatic boost is to support the Hoopa Valley Tribe’s biennial boat dance ceremony in the Community of Hoopa. Sunday afternoon releases from Lewiston Dam will be 450 cubic feet per second. By the same time on Monday the releases will reach a peak of 2,650 CFS. The Bureau of Reclamation will gradually return to the river to the normal flow of 450 CFS by next Thursday afternoon.
