A lightning fire that started at 6:30PM Wednesday night about 13 miles north of Susanville has already grown to more than a thousand acres. The R-1 Ranch Fire is burning very close to the scar of last week’s Horse Fire. The current fire is threatening two ranches and a historic cabin, though no structures have burned yet, according to the Forest Service. The fire is wind-driven and has spread into rocky terrain, making it very difficult for ground crews.
