A lightning fire that started Wednesday night about 13 miles north of Susanville has burned about 3340 acres. It’s only 35% contained. The R-1 Ranch Fire is burning very close to the scar of last week’s Horse Fire. The current fire is threatening two ranches and a historic cabin, though no structures have burned yet, according to the Forest Service. The fire is wind-driven and has spread into rocky terrain, making it very difficult for ground crews.
