Thousands Of Lightning Strikes Reported Over Northern California

Numerous lightning strikes hit the Northstate overnight, but no major fires were reported. The National Weather Service Office in Sacramento detected thousands of of strikes in Northern California in the 24 hours ending at 8AM Thursday morning, mainly in the foothills and mountains. The Shasta-Trinity Unit of the U.S. Forest Service reported 152 lightning strikes in their area. Cal-Fire, the Forest Service and local fire departments have been responding to small fires started during the storms.
