The Latest: Red Bank Fire Grows To 6500 Acres

The Red Bank Fire that was first detected about 25 miles west of Red Bluff at midday Thursday grew at an alarming rate. The latest Cal-Fire survey Friday morning has the fire at 6,500 acres with 5% containment. It was sparked by lightning off Balis Bell Road in the Red Bank area. It’s not known what structural damage may have occurred, but multiple structures are threatened and mandatory evacuations are in effect for Pettyjohn Road to the Forest Service boundary, as well as the R-Wild Horse Ranch on Highway 36. There’s an evacuation warning for the Red Bank Oaks Subdivision. Access is difficult and some of the engines assigned to structure protection Thursday afternoon had to be called back for fear that they would be trapped by the approaching flames. Many resources have been assigned to the Red Bank fire, including more than 650 personnel and several very large air tankers.
