Inmate Found Dead In Shasta County Jail Identified

The Shasta County Coroners Office has released the name of a man who died while in custody in the Shasta County Jail, and Redding Police have initiated their investigation. Thursday morning 58-year-old Teddy Woodrow Abbie apparently fought with deputies as they were trying to place him in a safety cell. During a cell check later, Abbie was found unresponsive. Life saving efforts were made but he could not be revived. His family has been notified. Redding Police say they made several dozen interviews in their investigation. Officials have not said the reason for Abbie’s incarceration. A post mortem exam was done but the coroner’s office has not yet determined a cause of death.
