Coroner ID’s 2nd Inmate To Die At Shasta County Jail In Two Week Period

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has identified an inmate who died while in the Shasta County Jail. Sunday morning, just after 5AM, correctional deputies and a medical staff member observed 31-year-old John David Adena of Redding having medical difficulties while he was in his cell. Custody staff escorted the inmate to the jail medical unit where he became unresponsive. Staff members immediately began life-saving efforts while a life support unit was called. The man was later pronounced dead by medical personnel at the jail. Shasta County Sheriff’s Office detectives and coroner’s office personnel were called in to investigate the incident. An autopsy of the subject will be scheduled this week to determine the cause and manner of death. Less than 2 weeks ago, another inmate died while in custody at the jail.
