Whiskeytown Park Continues Recovery From Carr Fire

A scenic section of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is reopening on Thursday morning, over a year after it was closed due to the Carr Fire. The Park Service says that at 9AM Thursday morning the gates will open allowing visitors access to South Shore Drive from Dry Creek Campground to the Carr Powerhouse. The 10 mile section of unpaved road suffered severe damage in the fire. Crews had to remove over 6000 hazardous trees, and the Park Service urges visitors to remain cautious for falling trees. 500 feet on either side of Boulder Creek, Brandy Creek, Mill Creek, and Paige Boulder Creek remain closed due to the threat of debris flows. The area may close at short notice at any time in the event of heavy rain.
