Anderson Police Arrest Woman On Child Abuse Charges

An Anderson woman has been arrested for child abuse after a witness reported seeing her assaulting her child. Anderson Police were called to the Motel 6 on McMurry Drive Tuesday afternoon, where they contacted 53-year-old Gina Harper, who was still standing with her child outside their motel room. Officers say she showed signs of being under the influence of stimulants and they detained her. She reportedly gave permission for them to search her room, leading to the alleged discovery of almost 6 grams of methamphetamine, pipes and alcohol, all within reach of the child. The room was littered with food, trash and dog feces. Officers reviewed surveillance footage to see the reported assaultive behavior toward the child, and Harper was arrested for felony child endangerment and drug possession. The child was handed over to county child services. While police were there, 55-year-old Martin Gile showed up, saying he was in a relationship with Harper, and he was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant.
