Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Abusing Infant

A 21-year-old Redding man has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting to an uncontrollable urge to cause pain to his baby boy. Michael Salvadore Pappalardo told the baby’s mother in November of last year that he had been pinching, squeezing and pulling on the infant for the entire 8 months since his birth. That’s when she called Redding Police. The baby was sent for an evaluation at UC Davis, where they discovered previously undetected fractures in the boy’s ribs and wrist. Pappalardo agreed to a plea of torture. In handing down the life sentence on Friday, Judge Cara Beatty pointed out the calculating and merciless nature of the violence inflicted on the vulnerable young victim. Pappalardo will be eligible for parole in seven years.
