RPD K9 Helps Officers Arrest Alleged Car Thief

A Redding Police K9 led his fellow officers to a suspected car thief Friday night. Just before 10 O’clock, an officer in the Golden One Credit Union parking lot on East Cypress saw a Ford SUV that had been reported stolen. He watched as a man got out and walked over to use the ATM. As the man was returning to the stolen vehicle he saw the officer driving toward him, and he turned and ran through the parking lot and into an empty field. The officer ran after him and yelled at him to stop but soon lost sight of him and called for backup. With help from a CHP helicopter and local residents, the suspect was tracked into the Starlight Mobile Estates. A discarded hat and sweatshirt helped Dozer the K9 pick up a scent and 30-year-old Troy Farrare was found hiding on the front porch of one of the mobile homes. Farrare is already on probation for vehicle theft. He was booked into jail.
