Crews Contain Separate Vehicle Fires Tuesday Afternoon

Cal-Fire crews in Tehama County battled a fire Tuesday off Highway 36 about 4 miles south of the intersection with Bowman Road. It started a little after 3:30PM Tuesday afternoon with a van that became fully engulfed in flames. Fire quickly spread into the dry grass and began moving south. At last word, the fire was estimated at 5 acres. The CHP shut down both lanes of Highway 36 because of fire department vehicles on the roadway. At about that same time another vehicle fire broke out in Eastern Shasta County. A 2 ton flatbed truck loaded with bales of hay caught fire at the intersection of Highway 299 and Highway 89 just east of Burney. It produced a large dark column of smoke and the flames began spreading to vegetation, but firefighters quickly halted the spread to a small spot.
