Man Arrested After Accidentally Firing Gun In North Redding

An accidental discharge of a shotgun led to an armed standoff in North Redding Wednesday. Redding Police responded at 10:30AM to a house on Hollow Lane after reports of a single shot being heard. Witnesses say a man was heard yelling just prior to the shot. Officers surrounded the home and learned that 35-year-old Tyler Meeks lives there with his wife and two children. Meeks walked outside briefly and saw the police cars, but then turned around and went back in the house. Officers used a P.A. system to call Meeks out of the house, and he finally did after about 15 minutes. Meeks was home alone. He said the shotgun went off accidentally while he was trying to unload it. He also said he was unaware that police were there to talk to him. The shotgun was confiscated and the case was sent to the District Attorney’s Office for a possible charge of reckless discharge inside a residence.
