A Downtown Redding apartment was damaged by fire Wednesday afternoon. Redding Fire Department was called to a triplex at 1070 California Street just north of Trinity Street. Battalion Chief Eric McMurtry got there first. He was met by the occupants of the building, who told him nobody was inside. Fire damage was confined to a single bedroom. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. McMurtry estimates the value of the damage at around $20,000.
