Victim Of Fatal Crash On I-5 Identified

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the driver of the SUV that landed on Interstate Five last Wednesday morning. 78-year-old Douglas Nelson Denton of Redding was driving a Buick SUV on Hilltop Drive along the Bluffs near the Interstate Five overcrossing when the vehicle left the road and, without any sign of braking, went through a chain link fence and a field, and then launched onto the freeway below, landing in the southbound lanes. The SUV was then struck by a GMC pickup driven by 74-year-old Robert Daniel Jr. of Shasta Lake City. Denton, who may have been unconscious throughout the ordeal, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Redding Police department and a post mortem exam is scheduled by the coroner’s office.
