Sheriff’s K9 Alerts On Drugs During Traffic Stop

A large quantity of drugs was seized during a traffic stop in Happy Valley Friday evening. At 8:30PM, a Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a red Ford Mustang, which pulled over into the parking lot of the market at Happy Valley Road and Hawthorn Avenue. The deputy had his partner, Fritz the K9, sniff around the car and the dog indicated drugs in the trunk. A search reportedly turned up 1.4 Pounds of Methamphetamine in a hidden compartment of a tote bag, as well as a luggage bag containing 7 Pounds of processed Marijuana. Deputies determined that the owner of the bags was the passenger, 56-year-old Keith Schatek of Oakley. He was booked into jail. The woman driving the car was apparently released.
