Driver Arrested After Multi-Agency Chase In East Redding

Police chased a car overnight in East Redding, though the driver did not give up driving easily. Just after 2AM a Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy saw a white Honda near Goodwater and Squire that looked like a car that had recently been chased by Redding Police twice. Though the driver had gotten away both times, the license plate number had been noted. After confirming it was the same car, the deputy notified RPD and tried to pull the car over on Shasta View Drive near Sunridge. The car did not stop but continued north at less than 35 miles an hour. Redding Police set up a spike strip at Shasta View and College View and it flattened one of the front tires, but the driver kept going on college view at 47 miles an hour, running the stop sign at Old Oregon Trail. It finally came to a stop near Lois Lane. A search reportedly turned up a small amount of heroin in the car. The driver, 30-year-old Andrew Giovanni Vaides, was arrested. The female passenger was released.
