Inmates Accused Of Murdering Fellow Prisoner At High Desert State Prison

Two inmates at High Desert State Prison in Susanville have apparently murdered a fellow prisoner. The attack occurred last Wednesday afternoon between general population yards. Guards saw the attack happening and broke it up using pepper spray. The victim later died at a hospital. Two manufactured weapons were found at the scene of the attack. Both of the accused inmates are serving extended sentences from crimes committed while in prison. Roger Vasquez was serving 22 years for armed robbery but had another 12 years added last March for assaulting another inmate. Douglas Leon was sentenced to life with a possibility of parole following a murder conviction in 2011. He had three years added in 2016 for possessing a weapon. The dead inmate’s name has not been released.
