Winter Recreation Activities Begin At Lassen Park

Officials at Lassen Volcanic National Park want to remind people that there’s still plenty to do there, but it’s an entirely different experience than it was just a few weeks ago. A series of strong Winter storms has brought several feet of snow to the park, forcing the seasonal closure of Highway 89, the main park road. There’s three feet of snow at the Kohm Yah-Mah-Nee Visitor Center and more is on the way. The center is open Wednesdays through Sundays. Starting in January, the park will provide snowshoes to people washing to participate in free ranger-led walks. The entrance fee to the park is $10 for a 7-day pass and an annual pass is $55, which also is good at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. More details are at nps.gov/lavo.
