A driver was killed when his car went a long way down a near sheer cliff near Burnt Ranch sometime Monday, according to the Trinity Journal. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office believes the car was going westbound on Highway 299 when it left the roadway and dropped more than 300 feet before landing partially submerged. An investigator says the car was airborne most of the way down. There were apparently no witnesses to the crash, but another driver went by and noticed tracks going off the road, so he went back and looked down to see the wreckage. Officials are trying to find family of the victim for notification.
