Woman Killed After Car Crashes Into Large Rock In East Redding

One person died in a crash in East Redding Thursday night. Redding Police say the collision happened at around 10:30PM. A 2012 Kia Optima was southbound on Alta Mesa Drive and apparently ran the stop sign at Rancho Road, colliding with a large rock on the other side of the road. Rocks had been placed there by the residents after previous collisions with their house and with cars in their driveway. People who heard the crash and came to the aid of the driver were unable to get the door open, but an arriving officer opened the door and found the female driver unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Airbags had deployed, but the woman had not been wearing her seatbelt. It’s not yet known if drugs or alcohol were involved. The woman’s name will be released by the coroner’s office after family is notified.
