Coroner ID’s Man Shot & Killed By Redding Police

A man shot by Redding Police on Pine Street on December 22nd has been identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office as 34-year-old Jesse Donnelly Adams of Marysville. It was 3:20AM and an RPD Officer patrolling around South Market and Parkview saw a car swerving across multiple traffic lanes. Suspecting a DUI, the officer pulled the car over, and they stopped in the parking lot of an office on Pine Street about halfway up the hill. There were three people in the car and the officer thought Donnelly seemed to be under the influence and acting strangely. The officer called for backup and two other officers showed up, each with a civilian ride-along passenger. Officers say they approached the car and told Donnelly to get out, but he refused and sped toward the three patrol cars, sideswiping one before driving toward another that had one of the civilians sitting in it. He didn’t hit that car but reportedly rushed toward the third car, forcing an officer to dodge out of the way. The car rammed head-on into the police car, but Donnelly had already been shot by one of the officers. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and pronounced dead. The civilian ride-along in the police car and one of the passengers in Donnelly’s car were treated for injuries from the collision. The sheriff’s office and D.A.’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
