CHP: Wrong Way Driver On I-5 May Have Suffered Medical Condition

A wrong way driver struck a CHP vehicle on Interstate 5 in Northern Tehama County early Friday morning. Shortly after 4AM a 2011 Chevy Impala was reported heading north in the southbound lanes approaching Sunset Hills Drive. Two officers responded from the Cottonwood scales to try and stop the car. 75-year-old Margaret Bodenschatz of Anderson drove past the first officer and struck the second officer head-on after he had stopped in the fast lane. The 46-year-old officer, a 19 year veteran of the department, sustained minor injuries. He and Bodenschatz were both hospitalized as a precaution. The CHP says drugs or alcohol are not suspected, and that Bodenshatz may have been experiencing a medical issue.
