Annual Bull & Gelding Sale Kicks Off In Red Bluff

The 79th annual Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale is this week. It’s the largest bull sale west of the Rockies. Sifting an grading begins Tuesday. Prospective buyers are checking the stock and this weekend they all go on the auction block at the Tehama District Fairgrounds in Red Bluff. Last year a Bay Gelding went for $55,000. That’s a lot of money for a horse that’s not going to reproduce. The priciest bull was a $20,000 Angus. Both of those were record prices. The average price for stock dogs was nearly $7,000, with the highest being $17,000. In 2018 two dogs went for $30,000 each. Anything with a western theme is being sold at the event, from handmade saddles and jewelry to furniture and livestock trailers. There’s also a western art show and auction. Tickets and more details are at redbluffbullsale.com.
