Woman Charged With Murdering Husband May Face Additional 25 Year Sentence

Trinity County’s District Attorney will seek a capital-level murder conviction against a Hayfork woman accused of killing her husband, according to a report in the Trinity Journal. 47-year-old Kay Chue Vang pleaded not guilty last month. During a preliminary hearing last week she was ordered to stand trial for first degree murder plus three special allegations that could add 25 years to her sentence. On December 4th at around 2AM, deputies accompanied medical personnel to the Hayfork home and found 48-year-old Billy Vang Dead. He had been shot once in the chest and once in the head. The weapon, a Ruger semi-automatic pistol, was turned over to deputies by an unnamed family member at the house, who said that the couple had been arguing and Kay Vang said Billy had tried to kill her, so she shot him twice. She then reportedly put the gun to her head, threatening to pull the trigger. The family member was able to get the gun away from her and unload it before giving it to deputies. Kay Vhue Vang will return to court on February 18th for arraignment. Until then she remains in Trinity County Jail on no bail.
