Woman Under Investigation For Embezzlement Charged With Elder Abuse

A woman being investigated for embezzling from an area little league has been arrested for stealing from an elderly woman. Last month, Adult Protective Service advised Redding Police of a woman who’d apparently used a 90-year-old woman’s credit card to rack up charges, including a flight to Southern California for a shopping spree. Michele Luanne Abrams was a caretaker for the elderly victim at the time of the fraudulent charges. In November, Abrams was arrested and charged for embezzling over $12,000 from a local little league. Investigators say the theft from the elderly woman amounted to over $6,400 over a period of two months. Abrams reportedly admitted to the woman’s family that she’d fraudulently used the victim’s credit card and agreed to pay the money back. Shortly after that, a family member noticed a payment was made via a cash app, that may have come from the West Redding Little League’s account. Abrams was out of jail on her own recognizance at the time. Investigators also say Abrams scammed a 77-year-old woman, who was a friend of the other victim. On Thursday, an arrest warrant was issued for felony elder abuse, grand theft, and identity theft. Abrams was arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail. Her bail was set at $50,000.
