Crews Working To Re-Open Highway 96 Near Happy Camp

The mess that closed a highway in Siskiyou County has only gotten worse, according to Cal-Trans. Highway 96 is closed about 4 miles west of Happy Camp with no estimated date of reopening. It’s been closed since January 13th, when rainy weather caused a massive amount of rocks and mud to slide off the mountainside onto the roadway. Recent storms have added snow and more debris to an already overloaded area. Crews are continuing to haul away large loads of material, but the active slide is still on the move.
