Anderson Man Found Guilty Of Murdering Texas Man

A man from Anderson has been convicted of the execution style murder of a Texas man in a remote area of Siskiyou County. Last February the body of 31-year-old Hunter Sims of Sugarland, Texas was found by a utility worker off North Old State Road near Eddy Creek northwest of Weed. A rental car linked to Sims was parked nearby. Major crimes investigators eventually were led to 41-year-old Eddie Dodge of Anderson. Prosecutors say Sims had flown into Sacramento February 4th and drove to Redding to buy a large quantity of marijuana. His Redding contact, who eventually provided testimony in exchange for immunity, was unable to get the quantity he wanted, so they called Dodge, who provided some samples. Sims approved and drove back to Sacramento, then returned the next morning with $200,000 cash. That evening Sims followed Dodge to Siskiyou County with the intention of meeting Dodge’s contact and making the deal. Sims body was found two days later. He had been shot four times in the back of the head. After the murder, Dodge contacted a friend in Yreka and tried to get him to provide an alibi, but the friend was unconvinced and he reported the story to law enforcement. When Dodge was picked up in Oregon, he gave the alibi story, unaware that it had already been discredited. Before leaving town, Dodge had paid off the Redding contact with 40 to 50,000 Dollars of the money, telling him not to talk to the cops. The contact went to a lot of effort to find Sims, and eventually sent the money to Sims’ mother in Texas. His testimony was key in last week’s conviction of first degree murder with the special circumstance of murder for financial gain. Dodge will be sentenced in March, and faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sims left behind a 9-year-old daughter, who he was supposed to accompany to a daddy/daughter dance the Saturday after he was killed. She learned of his death the day before the dance.
