Otto the Redding Police K9 has been busy. Officer Joanna Bland contacted 41-year-old James Maynard Saturday afternoon next to the Pine Street Safeway. He’s on supervised release with an ankle monitor, and had two misdemeanor warrants and a felony warrant. He took off on foot and jumped into the canal between Cypress Avenue and Locust Street. A CHP helicopter was called to help and Otto picked up a track. Maynard was found in the canal south of the D.M.V. and refused to surrender, so Otto went in and got him. After being treated for dog bites at a hospital, Maynard was booked into jail.
