Missing Girl Found Safe With Mother

A reported child abduction in Weaverville on Friday turned out to be a family matter. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office issued a “be on the lookout” after the 11-year-old girl was picked up Friday afternoon by her mother, who lives in Redding. The girl apparently had arranged the rendezvous because she no longer wanted to live with relatives who had been given paternal custody rights. Saturday morning the mother called to explain the situation and arranged to meet in Redding with Trinity County authorities. It was learned that she still can petition the court for a return of her parental rights. For now, the girl is being allowed to remain with her mother and no criminal charges will be filed.
