Update: Crews Contain House Fire In The Candlewood Neighborhood

An East Redding house sustained heavy smoke damage from a fire Tuesday morning. Located on Lacey Lane in the Candlewood Neighborhood off Shasta View, the fire started sometime after 8 O’clock. Redding Firefighters had a long response time because the location is about halfway between station 5 and station 8. Redding Police got there first and tried to make entry because neighbors said the residents may have been inside. At it turns out, the house was unoccupied. The fire likely started in a rear bedroom, which is where most of the fire damage was. Firefighters had to cut some holes in the roof to clear the inside and they had the fire under control in about 25 minutes. The damage is estimated at $80,000 for the structure and $35,000 for the contents. Fire Marshal Craig Wittner says the cause remains under investigation, but it may have been a faulty cell phone charger.
