California Sues To Block New Trump Administration Water Rules

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California has sued the Trump administration to block new rules that would let farmers take more water from the state’s rivers. Gov. Gavin Newsom and state Attorney General Xavier Becerra say the new rules would push endangered fish species to extinction. Federal officials say the new rules pledge $1.5 billion to restore habitat for endangered species and improve fish hatcheries. President Donald Trump celebrated the new rules in Bakersfield on Wednesday. The rules govern how much water can be pumped out of the watersheds of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers. Many fishing interests, conservation groups and Native American tribes have said the plan pushes Chinook Salmon closer to extinction.
