Wind Fans House Fire In City Of Shasta Lake

A house was destroyed by fire in the City of Shasta Lake Tuesday morning. Crews with the Shasta Lake Fire Protection District responded shortly before Noon to the house on Altus Street, located near Pancake Hill. The house was well involved in fire and we’re told that once it got into the attic, the gusty north wind made quick work of the structure. The house was a total loss, with an estimated value of $200,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There was a man and a woman living there, who both escaped the house, but the man had to be transported to the hospital, mostly as a precaution. He had some superficial burns and redness and there was some concern that he could have suffered lung damage by breathing in the searing heat of the fire while escaping. The couple had four dogs, and one of them did not make it out alive. The Red Cross is assisting with temporary lodging.
