RPD: Woman Admits To Using Cell Phone Before Crash In North Redding

Distracted driving was to blame for a crash Sunday morning. A little after 11AM Hanna McCuan was driving northbound on North Market Street approaching Arboretum Drive. The 20-year-old Redding woman was using her cell phone and therefore did not notice the light had turned red. Meanwhile 23-year-old Hannah Smith of Shasta Lake was southbound and had a green light to make a left turn onto Arboretum. McCuan tried to swerve her Dodge sedan but couldn’t react in time and smashed into Smith’s Kia, then caromed off into an REU power pole. Smith was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The RPD says McCuan admitted to using her cell phone while driving.
