Schools Across North State Announce Closures Due To Virus Concerns

Coronavirus concerns have led administrators to suspend all schools in the Shasta Union High School District, as well as Shasta College and Simpson University. Chico State is closed through April 24th. The colleges will attempts to make as many classes as possible available online, and students will be notified. The closures will continue for at least three weeks. U-Prep will be conducting classes online, with instructions sent to students by midweek. Redding School District announced Sunday night that their schools will be closed through April 3rd. Grant School is closed. Happy Valley Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday. North Cow Creek will be open Monday, but close starting Tuesday. Fall River schools are closed. Many Siskiyou County schools are closed starting Wednesday and for the remainder of the month, including Dunsmuir Elementary and High, Happy Camp Elementary and High, Mount Shasta Elementary and High, Weed Elementary and High, and McCloud High. Most schools are planning to reopen in April.

Performances at the Redding Civic Auditorium through March have been canceled or postponed. Auditorium management says they will make every attempt to reschedule these events, otherwise refunds will be issued. Cascade Theater performances of Matilda, the musical are postponed until June. All other community events and gatherings at the Cascade during March have been canceled. As of now, April events are still expected to take place as scheduled. Bethel has canceled live church services for its large flock of nearly 12,000 members. They’ll be doing services through their online portal instead, bethel.tv.
