11AM Tuesday: 1st Case Of Community Transmission Reported In Shasta County

Shasta County Health & Human Services Agency has reported the 1st known case of community spread of COVID-19. After investigation it is believed that the Shasta County man in his 80’s who was diagnosed with COVID-19 over the weekend was infected through community transmission and not from traveling. The agency says that the man did not have travel history and he didn’t have contact with a person known to have COVID-19. He remains isolated at a Redding hospital.

As of Tuesday morning six cases of the virus have been confirmed in Shasta County. The only death was a woman in her 70’s who caught it at a Sacramento hospital and died last week in Redding. A man in his 50’s has recovered. On Monday, public health reported that a woman in her 20’s was diagnosed and she is believed to have contracted the virus while traveling out of state during the 14 day incubation period. She’s in isolation at home and public health is trying to track down her contacts.

15 people are under quarantine orders due to possible exposure. There have been 224 people who tested negative in Shasta County, including 90 tests done by private labs. Siskiyou County has three confirmed Coronavirus patients and Butte County has eight. Humboldt County has 21. Glenn County announced a 2nd case on Sunday. There are none reported in Tehama, Trinity, Lassen or Modoc Counties. Trinity County has issued an order asking non-residents not to enter the county.
