Lack Of Available Testing Concerns Shasta County Health Officer

A lack of available testing materials and personal protective equipment remains an issue for Shasta County Public Health and other area medical providers. Mercy Hospital has received a large crate of P.P.E. and a lot of businesses and individuals are donating what they have stored and what they’re sewing or making on 3D printers. As for testing, the shortage of extraction and testing kits is not a matter of money, according to Public Health, but has more to do with the supply chain being prioritized elsewhere. Shasta Community Health says they’re getting their tests done through Questlabs, which takes 7 to 10 days to get results. Shasta County Health Officer Doctor Karen Ramstrom says the recommendation that everyone wear masks while out in public should not be construed as a substitute for social distancing.
