‘Dreary Summer’ Expected In California As Virus Dims Plans

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Summertime in California won’t look the same. Gov. Gavin Newsom has outlined a road map for easing coronavirus restrictions that’s leading to empty stadiums, amusement parks, fairgrounds and most beaches. His news Tuesday has dimmed hopes for many who looked forward to a more typical summer after spending a month largely indoors and away from friends, coworkers and others. Professional sports are on hold, most beaches and popular hiking trails are closed, countless events are canceled and thousands of businesses are shuttered. Any broad reopening would depend on a vaccine that could be more than a year away.
