Unemployment Numbers Don’t Reflect Coronavirus Closure

The job impact from the Coronavirus response is not yet reflected in the unemployment numbers from March. EDD Research Data Specialist Sheila Stock says the report is based on the week of the 12th, and the stay at home order was not declared until the Sunday following that week. Shasta County had a 6.8% jobless rate compared to 5.4% in February. Some of the more rural Northstate counties felt the loss of tourism earlier, such as Trinity County with a 9.2% rate and Siskiyou County with a 10% rate.
