The next time widespread intentional blackouts are done for fire safety, a cluster of PG&E customers in the Shingletown area may be an island of electricity amid the darkness. A micro-grid generation site is being built along Highway 44 next to Reed’s Market. In the event of a shutdown, PG&E can quickly connect mobile generators to the site, allowing electricity to continue flowing to a medical clinic, fire station, gas stations, markets, and restaurants. The micro-grid energization zone includes nearly 80 PG&E customers from Shingle Glen Trail to Alpine Meadows.
