Governor Extends Due Date For Property Taxes

Thousands of property tax statements are overdue, according to Shasta County Assessor-Recorder Leslie Morgan, but the Governor has granted an extension. Businesses are required to report annually all of their fixtures, supplies, machinery and other taxable property as of the first of the year. Those reports were due last Thursday, but 3,000 of the 8,500 reports due to Shasta County have not been received. Last Wednesday Governor Newsom ordered that property tax statements won’t be due until the end of May. Since May 31st is on a Sunday, the reports need to be postmarked by Monday, June 1st. Anyone who needs help can call the Assessor’s Office at 225-3640.
