Fairfield, Calif. (AP) – A helicopter based in Red Bluff with three people aboard crashed onto a hillside next to Interstate 80 on Tuesday. The Bell 206 helicopter was conducting flights for PG&E when it hit a high voltage transmission line and crashed. Solano County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed Wednesday morning that the crew had died. Their names haven’t been released. The FAA says the crash was reported around 1:30PM near Interstate 80, midway between Fairfield and Vacaville. Local authorities said the crash ignited a 7-acre fire and knocked out power to about 38,000 Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers. A fire truck responding to the fire rolled over, sending three firefighters to the hospital with minor injuries. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the Bell 206 helicopter was operated by PJ Helicopters, based in Red Bluff. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
